This Monday we were at Wells Beach Maine and after the tide receded I found this about six feet from the breakwater boulders. There is a dangerous rip tide in the area and the surf was pounding the rocks when the tide was in. I guess Mother Nature has a sense of humor after all.
What a really strange phenomenon!! I wonder if it was a whirlpool that caused such a configuration of the sand? So glad you got such a good shot of it. :-D
I returned to the exact spot on the next three days at low tide and other than a few minor depressions there was nothing. Beats the heck out of me.
