It's a super great insect year here. I have a mint that is just a great lure for thousands of insects. It's not for the faint-hearted because it's full of bees and wasps. A beautiful metallic green wasp. This is a male Cowkiller. He is an ant mimic wasp. The female is wingless and they are know for their very painful stings. I bet the Texas ladies know them. This is an antlion in the winged stage. They have a weird helicopter flight. She is delicately beautiful but quite large. Butterflies are everywhere! It's a great year here for them. A small but very lovely ailanthus webworm moth.
The green metallic wasp is such a lovely colour as is the cowkiller but I'm quite happy just to look at your photographs and admire them from afar!! I didn't realise that antlions were such pretty insects in their winged stage. The wings are really attractive with the pink and black banding on them. We've not seen many butterflies here in Scotland this year as it has been such dreadful weather, with very little sun, so it's good to know your garden has plenty Bethie. :-D
I have had a bunch of web worms this year. They really are pretty but rather strange the first time you see all the caterpillars in the webs. I thought they were stuck in spider webs untill I did some research. Your picks are lovely.
Yep,I know what they are for sure Bethie. There sting is really bad.I saw a big one the other day by the time I got my camera it was gone. I love those butterflys and that is a very unusal Cat.I have never seen one like it.
