Hi Guys Its been awhile since I have been on this forum I took your advice last time about my walnut floors and they look fab!! But its time to decorate now again I have two bedrooms that I haven't done anything with since I moved into the house they are just painted magnolia at the minute very boring. But its time to add some colour I think. I have a brown and cream theme running all through my house they are quiet rich colours. I need help choosing colours for my bedrooms they will be guest bedrooms. I don't know whether I would be best continuing with brown and cream paint and adding colour with curtains and bed covers etc or would it be better to add a colour with paint? I have been looking at paints for ages and cannot decide what colours to go with. I would quiet like something bright and funky! I got walnut floors all throughout the bottom level of my house and I was going to continue with the dark brown flooring by getting dark brown carpet for the stairs and all four bedrooms. I thought it would be best to keep all rooms the same. Good or bad idea?? Looking forward to your hearing your advice again.... Polly x
Personal opinion here, but I think each room should have it's own personality or theme. I have never been a fan of one color scheme thru the whole house. One kind of flooring throughout is okay but each room should be fun to be in and your guests will enjoy staying in a fun interesting room. Go with things you have an interest in, maybe an ocean type theme, with blues and whites ....or a restful forest theme with greens and browns...or a tropical beach theme with blues, yellows, red and gold. Each idea can be further carried out with photos or paintings and other accessories. Think 'outside the box' and set your imagination free. You can have some fun decorating those rooms.
I am not sure how to upload pics here but really there is nothing to show in a pic at the moment kuntry gal. They are both big square bedroom spaces with magnolia walls at present and nothing else in them except a built in beech wood wardrobe. So I have lots of work to do and I'm starting from scratch really. Also thanks for your advice toni but thats what I am having difficulty with is coming up with colours and themes for the rooms!! Go with the Colors....... Go with the colors of your choice, as you are supposed to live in your home not anyone else.
Paula check out the Posting Photos info here for two easy ways to put pictures in either posts or your blog. As far as themes and colors go....write down ideas. As I mentioned earlier...ocean, forest, beach or how about your favorite season, animal, flower or an entire garden theme with all sorts of flowers and colors. And with each one, write down the colors that come to mind when you think of that theme. I can't help you make the actual decision of which themes/colors to do the rooms in, that you will have to do. But you could put each one on a piece of paper and draw two out of a hat or give a list to family and friends and ask them to choose their two favorites. Course the results of those two methods are not actually going to be your choices, but something you 'settled for' and when you 'settle for' something you typically will not be happy in the long run.
First of all are these rooms going to be bedrooms, guest rooms, an office or what? if bedrooms why not choose a new bedding set,that you like. then take your inspiration color from that?
All good advice and I was going to mention you might look in some (house and home type) magazines. Wish I was there to shop with you, and even paint! Love that kind of 'stuff'.
I would go with light paint, maybe a light earth tone or cool gray to contrast the warm dark oak. A picture would defiantly help though.
