Last year, my bee balm was crazy. It was about 6' tall and had so many flowers. Now this year, they are only about 3-4' tall and have a lot fewer flowers. I'm afraid they won't attract as many hummingbirds. I'm wondering if they are cyclical and have some years that are less prolific or am I doing/not doing something wrong? Anyone have any advice for me?

Were they 6' tall in late June or later in the season?
I don't know if they grow differently year to year but I do know that this year mine are getting more shade than last year because of tree growth so they will be shorter than normal.

Mine vary in height as well, it seems it all depends on temps and moisture. They like moist conditions here, but not too wet. They also like a warm, sheltered space, so when we cut the hedge back they grew smaller.

Mine grew that tall in full sun. We'll see how they do next year. I think I'd just try feeding them regularly. Good luck.

My Monarda had a bad winter and is smaller than it used to be.
