We are having another cool, damp summer and only the berries are doing well. Lots of raspberries, strawberries are starting to do well despite the slugs and the blueberries are super bountiful this year. Now it is only a matter of the humans of the household getting some to eat. Ever since we have had dobbies this has been a challenge.

Kota is not bashful and will try her hardest to get through the netting on the strawberries. I have to admit I may be fighting a loosing battle.

bet I can get under this netting... ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )

There are also the raspberries. They aren't my favorite so no netting for them. Kota keeps the lower branches picked clean.

Lots of ripe ones under here, darn only green ones up higher. I have to wait for the others to ripen up again ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )

Now there are no photos of dogs in the blue berries, because I am not nice and a very vigilant on trying to keep them away from these delicious gems. Blueberries are my favorite berry.

Unfortunately I caught Ciara standing on the fence with her front feet trying to pick pears off a tree yesterday. No wonder her tummy is growling today.

"My tummy never growls. That sound is barking frogs" is Ciara's response ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )

We used to have a Labrador just like Ciara and Kota. He loved to pick our blackcurrants, raspberries and strawberries. He'd eat any apples or pears that fell off the trees but stopped short of munching on our gooseberries (must have been too sour or he didn't like the texture). Grapes couldn't be left anywhere in the house or he'd scoff the lot.
The funny thing is that if we offered him a nice, ripe strawberry, or other fruit, he'd refuse it and go out and pick his own!! I guess stolen treats taste better than the legitimate ones.

Jewell, That is so funny. I only have to fight with the wildlife here. Pretty bad when the close family members rob the goods.

We would plant tomato on edge of garden for one of our Viszlas. Reach in pick one.Ginger loves grapes. Don't have our own. So sits right in front of Dh eating them. Now young yellow lab does the same. She would eat about anything.

    Your fur-babies are beautiful.
Think of all the anti-oxidants they are getting!
