I went wild raspberry picking today. I was kind of surprised that they weren't very big or very many of them. I would have thought that with all the rain we had this spring, they would have been a lot nicer. Several of the big patches that I had a few years ago have died out. But I still got about a quart. We have some left over from last year so we have enough for several jars of home made jam.

Also I have 3 of my Roma cherry tomatoes that are starting to turn.

Maybe there was too much rain this year. After all, your area is 12 inches over average. Just a guess.

I haven't seen any real signs of my raspberries ripening this year yet. We've had hardly any sun so far this spring and summer so maybe that's our problem. I have, however, managed to wrestle enough blackcurrants from the blackbirds to make a big container full of sorbet. Next I'll pick the goosebarries and either make a fool or some more sorbet with them.

I'm keeping my eye on my blackberries. I'm determined that I WILL beat the birds to them this year. I WILL have fresh berries!!

The birds here don't go after the raspberries. They go after the mullberries. But there was a large number of Daddy Long Leg spiders on the raspberries.

I guess nobody wants to hear that my husband and I enjoyed raspberries with ice cream 2 nights ago?

That was our first major picking other than sampling while wandering past. I have everbearing raspberries and there are lots pf berries still to ripen. We haven't had a huge amount of rain the past couple of months but it has been very cold and sun hiding behind those grey clouds. We got sun for 2 or 3 days and all of a sudden I had a bunch finally ripen.

Sadly today it is cold, windy, and dreary with a light misty rain.
