Caity went on a day trip with Grandma and her cousin last week. Their day was down to Amish country to see this HUGE draft horse. I think he may be one of the largest horses in the world. He is 3000#'s and 19 hands high which is almost 80 inches high at the whithers. His feet are like dinner plates. I didn't ask what he eats everyday....maybe a bale of hay? I wouldn't be surprised.

Wow! He looks more elegant than a Shire horse, which is the largest horse breed. Wish I could see him in real life. :D

What a handsome fellow he is!! If he has 'feathers' on his feet then I'd say he was a Shire. I always needed a mounting block to get on a horse that tall.

Droopy and Luke, He is huge. I saw Caity took a picture of his foot, but that really didn't turn out spectacular as there was nothing to compare it's size to in the picture, but I don't remember if there was any feathering on his hocks. if I get down there I will get another picture to see.

Eileen, a mounting block wouldn't help with this horse. You would need a cliff or a crane  I think he is taller than Sjoerd. Even he couldn't see over this horses back. HE is almost 7' tall at the shoulder.

Love draft horses, the gentle giants! A gentleman near here has two retired Belgians. He plowed with them up until about three years ago, and folks would stop by the roadside to see them pulling that plow. Of course, they were nowhere as large as Big Ben.
I sure hope they breed him!

I was looking back through the pictures Caity took, but his feet are trimmed and there is no feathering to see. But the sign does say Holmes county's biggest horse. Breed...Belgian, 19H 3" high. So that puts him at 79" for the height at his whithers.

Jane, I have no idea if he is a stud or a gelding. I am not sure I would want him near my mare if he was a stud. I think I would insist on AI if at all possible, but I am not sure that they do horses this way, only bovine that I know of.
