I had just gone inside the house after watering the garden and all the songbirds started squawking like crazy. I went out to see what all the noise was about and there was a very large Red-tailed Hawk on the garage roof. I ran inside for the camera and was happy to see my zoom lens was on. He stayed for several minutes while I snapped away. He was very imposing when he turned around and stared at me.

He looked a lot larger when he turned around and stared at me.

I think he spotted his prey, and I hope its not me!

I could tell he was getting ready to take off but my zoom didn't respond fast enough. It was amazing to see him that close.

Wow! Those shots are great! It must have been a thrilling experience to see him up close like that. Looks like he was searching for lunch? Hmmm, glad he didn't get any of your pretty birds.

Sheer magnificence. So glad your zoom was on and you managed to get so many great shots Gail. Those talons would certainly make short work of any bird he hunted and caught.

I am so glad you all enjoyed "Big Bird", it was certainly exciting for me. Thanks for your comments. He was facing away from me and then when he turned around and stood up and stared right at me he with these amazing, penetrating eyes. He also started making these quiet little sounds right before he fluffed his feathers and took off.

    Appreciate all your comments.
Frank when I posted that last photo on my Facebook, one of my friends commented "Its a bird, its a plane its super...no its a bird". I had actually had that same thought when I saw that photo :-D .
