:) I like to have birds around the home so I provide them with things they need.
Water in bird baths we have five of them. Food we have planted many shrubs that provide berries and other seeds for them as well as many flowers they are fond of.
Most important are homes for them. Since I like to work with wood they get a few cedar ones from plans found here.

I do not do purple martins since they like to eat honey bees.

    birds around the home

:D Its always great to see the seasonal nature of birds . The wren has come back after about 6 months , he s a little fellow with a sticky up tail, the days are getting colder so I presume hes come here for the insects , lots here! his name is Troglodytes troglodytes (troglodyte is a cave dweller) which is an inauspicious name for the king of all birds . He became king after being in a race with all the other birds to see who could fly highest, when the eagle who was largest had flown higher than the rest shouted behold your king , the wren jumped up from his back and shouted behold your real king :D Bugs
p.s. remember Mary Poppins ------ feed the birds ;)

y neighbor has a bird sanctuary. He has berry bushes and trees, etc. He has bird baths, fountains and feeders. He makes natural looking houses. Yesterday, when I went to give him cookies he was melting ice in the water. He was worried about the ice in my dog's water. But, Chance has water inside that doesn't freeze and she can get in and out at will. Our neighbor, Frank, has different feeders for different birds. My son has feeders too but he gets bigger birds like cardinals and jays. Dooley

Built a few bird boxes and had some screach owls move in. I plant plenty of native berries. My favorite is watching hummingbirds feed on my coral honeysuckle vine by a bay window!

SgtBaldy I love to watch the hummingbirds too. They are beautiful little creatures!! I used to have a coral honeysuckle but it did not survive one winter.
