I wasn't fast enough to snap the blue jays but I did get photos of some other birds enjoying the feeders on our apple tree. Can anyone identify the spotted bird? Yes I agree it's a starling. We have them here in Scotland too - very greedy birds but fun to watch. :-D
You've got nice birds visiting. Wish we could have woodpeckers in our yard. We only see them in the woods.
Yes, I guess those are starlings. We have lots of them around in the summer. I didn't realize they changed their coloring in the winter. The woodpeckers are fun to watch. They mostly prefer the free hanging suet holder. One will get on there and if another bird comes along the woodpecker will peck at it, like saying "Get off here. This one's mine!"
You have some nice birds at your feeders...I dislike the starling here. They came when we got heavy snow cover and will leave when the snow melts...it seems like they make such a mess all over and on everything. Have you seen the suet cages with the cover or top on it? I keep buying different suet holders here..pretty soon my garage will look like a store but I really enjoy the Downy and the Hairy woodpeckers at my feeders.
Starlings are nasty here. In the summer they fly so that they can poop sideways and get it on the walls of the house!
Both the starlings and swallows are nasty here. I remember my mother waging war on them when I was younger because they built nests in our carport. They found a loose soffit in our house where our covered sundeck is and built a nest there a couple of years ago. Really annoying when I was out on the sundeck and could hear them scrambling around and peeping up there. We waited until the bird family had moved out before fixing that soffit!
