These are pictures of some Bird's Nest Fungi that I found the other day. I have never found or seen these little guys before in person and I was very happy when I did. It's so amazing to me how the little reproductive structures really look like eggs in a nest.

Excellent foto's FF-- These really are such interesting things. M.C. Escher used to feature them in some of his wood carvings.
Do you have any lateral exposures?

When I first looked at your photographs I wondered what tiny bird nested in colonies like that. Just goes to show that I should read first and then look at the piccies. What an interesting fungi. The more I see of Mother Nature's work the more it amazes me with its variety and complexity.

Sjoerd - I just took this today. They are very conical and trumpet shaped.

    Eileen - That's too funny. :p

Frank - Actually, these little guys were just outside one of the buildings on campus in an old mulch pile under some bushes. They were everywhere. There had to be hundreds of them.

    Carolyn - Thanks! :D

FlowerFreak22; Wow I love how they look. Fungi and mushrooms are so neat. I will have to get a pic of the Turkey Tail fungi we have growing on some of the trees here. Some of those pic's would be great to frame and hang on ones wall. :stew1:
