Birds. Please identify

    What are they? They are brown with a yellow belly.
    These birds moved into the martin house yesterday and they were nesting in every hole. I spent a couple of hours trying to get clear pictures. Hope these are ok.

    They look like Goldfinches. Were there more birds or was a pair apartment hunting? They only feed and migrate in groups. They don't nest in groups as the male is territorial.

    Toni, The yellow is only on the belly and it is larger and has a longer beak then the gold finch. I've looked through lots of pic's but still can't idenify. I'm going to try and get a better picture today.

    Bird colorations change, sometimes drastically, depending on their gender and at different stages of their lives....juvenile, adult, breeding, non-breeding. So what it looks like now is probably not what it will look like in a few months after it has stopped breeding for this year.
    Hopefully you can keep track of it over the next few weeks and get more photos of any changes it goes through.
