In the early summer when it began to get hot I took out an old dishpan and put it on a stump and put a big rock in it. It has attracted lots of birds including cardinals, blue jays, flickers, doves and some other small birds. Chance thinks it is her job to guard it. I'm not sure she is guarding it from the birds or if she is guarding me from the birds. I think Chance is birdwatching Dooley and making sure her little feathered friends are safe. It's so important that people put water out for the birds when the weather is hot and your tub is ideal for them to visit.
That sure sweet of Chance to make sure the birds are safe while they are getting a drink or bathing. Maybe she's a new special breed of "bird dog"? :-D
what a beautiful Cardinal. I have never seen one in Washington. Does Chance drink the water out of the bath? Our dog Buddy thinks the fountain is his own personal drinking fountain.
I love your bird bowl. Now, where am I going to get a bowl to try it too? I love the inspiration I find here.
The little stainless bowl on the ground is Chance's water dish. The birds do use it, too, if the big one is busy. If the tub and bowl are too low the birds all line up and stare at the kitchen window. It's a bit daunting to look out and see a bunch of birds staring at you. Chance does chase the cats out of the yard. I think they come for the water, too, but Chance says they don't belong in our yard. dooley
You are so lucky to have cardinals and a bird dog to protect them....love the bowl and a good idea ...
It is nice to see your watering bowl....and amusing to see howe Chance stands like a sentinel watching-over it. I wonder what is in her mind. That is such an attractive cardinal there. I could look at them all day.
Some days I do stand at the window and watch them. The other day there was 3 big blue jays and 5 cardinals. The tub is big enough they could all drink at once but they were flying about and taking turns. Only two or three at one time. The others sat on the fence or up in the tree. But, the ones not drinking get impatient so they were all flying back and forth. I wish they'd stay when I go out with the camera but I have to sit still and wait and then Chance scares them more often than not. dooley
