Hi Anyone grow black bamboo....and positive or negative comments?? Will it grow in zone 5b? Any Canadian members growing it? I look forward to any assistance. Thank you Take care GG
I honestly don't know what zones black bamboo will grow in but if it's any help I can grow it here in Scotland. Our temperatures can drop to -10 with wind chill and it survives well.
I bought the clump forming black bamboo so it isn't invasive Gardeningguy. Apologies I meant to say -10C!! :-D
No need to apologize..... Do you have a photo?? Do you know the actual name of it? How tall does it get? Sorry for all of the questions but I really wish to get one. Thank you for your help. Take care GG Anyone else have any experience growing Black Bamboo??
If I remember correctly it's called Phyllostachys Nigra and mine is around 5-6 foot high. It would be more invasive if it was kept in a warmer climate but it has never been a problem here. The stems turn black in the second or third year.
Juanmraz black bamboo is used here as a purely decorative grass for growing in gardens. It's stems offer a lovely contrast to the green of its leaves. :-D
