Black Oystercatchers are back.

    They don't go far, just a rocky area where we have a lighthouse, they nest there. First I have seen for a while.

    Our Oystercatchers can now be seen daily along roadside verges searching for worms. Not so may years ago they were a rare sight around here and only tended to be seen in coastal regions.

    We haven't got that bird here, but it's cousin, the Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus). It's black and white with orange beak and legs. It spends winter further south but returns early in spring.

    Lovely colour combination,..red and black,..except for the long beak i was reminded of our Chough,..(Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

    We have Terns swooping near the house at present,..they nest not too far from here.

    I really like terns. There aren't many around here any more, and I miss them. :( Could someone please post some tern photos?

    Kildale, :-D Does the Black Oystercatchers only have one foot and leg? :D :rolleyes:

    Only kidding.. you know that.... it sure is a very nice bird. It does really have a very long beak. It's very nice.
