Something we don't see anymore, an old hot water heater made into a planter. Found this one in a gentleman's side yard in NW Ohio. ( photo / image / picture from Atwood Terrace's Garden )
Hi and welcome to GardenStew. We had to replace our waterheater earlier this year and I have plans to cut it open to make a planter too. Not on a stand but in front of the garden shed we hope to build next Spring. Thanks for the photo.
That is so very nice. What an idea. Thanks for sharing. Gives us crazy people something to think about.
That looks cute. Around here.. it had better be in the shade though. Afraid it would get too hot. You should check out our "Garden Junk" ... a sub-forum of the Hobbies & Crafts forum. Or there's a very cool thread about unusual containers you might enjoy too. http://www.gardenstew.com/about24805.html
I don't know how popular these things were back in the day but I've seen some in old photographs. You can see the one in the picture is old because of the rivets holding the ends together. The guy told me it was there when he bought the house., -Thanks Thank You. moderator's note: removed double posting see point 3.6 of usage rules
Have the decorative base from one that was in my husband's family old cabin. We use it as a small end table.
well I don't think, "junk" was a big thing back in the day, -at least not like it is now in some gardens., Back then the industrial revolution was flying high and people wanted new things in their gardens., -I think if the old people suddenly came back and saw some of the stuff we put in our gardens they'd probably laugh at us.
