I went out this morning and was poking around the yard. I moves some leaves in the pot that had bleeding hearts last year. I didn't think they would come back because they died back too soon last year. But, there they were, about two inches tall. I left the leaves off of them so they could get some sun. When I leave for work I will cover them up again. Wouldn't want them getting a cold. Things are getting up. I found some more tulips this morning and the daffodils are about 6 inches tall. I need to move some plants into bigger pots and repot the lavender plant that I bought on Sunday. Only thing, it needs to stay inside a few weeks and I can't be moving a big pot in and out so I guess it will stay in it's smaller pot until them. I will just have to watch for dry soil and keep it watered enough. dooley
Mine are the pink ones. I paid a dollar each for them last spring at the dollar store. They did really well but died back early due to the drought and heat. dooley
I LOVE bleeding hearts! I have a few pink ones and picked up a white one last year. My hummers love them too! hmm, i dont have a pic of the white. I hope it overwintered well.
I love bleeding hearts too and have both the pink and white ones. No signs of them in the garden yet though so fingers crossed they will come back again this year for me.
I've seen the pink ones, but no sign of the white one yet. I'm not too worried. Do you grow the small hearts as well, Dooley?
I can't wait to see mine again. I have a wild kind that grow in the woods and then white ones in the garden.
Bleeding Hearts, now there is ANOTHER one of my favorite plants LOL I have pink ones as well as the white. But I can't seem to find a picture of the white ones either...
I have a pink bleeding heart. I thought I seen a new shoot coming up last year, didn't really keep track of it though. I think the rabbits may have chewed it down. I always enjoy watching it bloom.
Beautiful... I tried putting in a couple last year, but one died and the other appeared to be devoured by slugs before it was big enough to recover from the onslaught. Time will tell if that one comes back or not. They're on my list of things to try again!
Those bleeding hearts are such pretty flowers. I have never grown them myself and I appreciate the piccies so much. Thanks for posting them. (That is just one benefit of Stewing - thanks again for the piccies )
The one in my pic I planted and it died off within weeks. The next spring I thought I'd plant something different in the same spot. As I raked up the remaining leaves from fall I was pleasantly suprised to find it sprouting! Dont give up on them yet....
