Friday morning, it started to snow. They put us in a winter storm watch. At noon they changed it to a winter storm warning. At 4 pm they canceled those and put us in a blizzard warning until 4 pm on Sat. The official snowfall this morning for my county is 10 inches. And it is supposed to snow all day today. The winds are about 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. I have a 4 foot drift in the parking area in front of the garage. Here is a pic of one around my wood shed that is approaching 3 ft. This as of 7:30 this morning. They have shut down all the roads in the county due to drifting snow, and only emergency vehicles can be out. If they catch you out driving and it's not an emergency you can be ticketedd.
We must be getting that same blizzard here Capt. I've battened down the hatches and stocked up on food, water, gas and library books!
In Ireland the media is warning people of some bad storms that seem to be brewing. It's going to be a rough weekend there. Seems to be bad weather in a lot of locations now.
I have a big pot of chili soup on cooking. Even if the power goes off, I can put it on the wood burner and cook it there. You all are welcome to some, you just have to get here!
I've calculated the wind strength. 40 mph is 18 meters per second. We're used to lots of wind here on the coast, but it's not nice when there's lots of snow involved as well. Here's a link to Beaufort's wind scale. I found it very enlightening.
I clean forgot to ask, I was so hung up in the wind strength: How on earth will you shift those awfully big drifts? I sincerely hope you've got a snow blower. We've only used ours twice all winter, you'd have better use for it over there.
I have an 18 horse power lawn tractor with a 45 inch wide snow blower on the front of it. I also have 50 pound weights on each rear wheel with snow chains. Even with that, the drifts will have to be broken down so I can get through them. I has been snowing for 27 hrs. now.
We had just over 36 hours of snowfall and high winds here. I sure hope that was the last time...I've had ENOUGH of winter! Today the sun is shining
The Columbus Ohio airport has an official snowfall of 20.4 inches. That's the most in a single event since 1910. The old record was 15 inches.
Impressive! That's more than half a meter. Congratulations on the new record. I hope it will stand forever.
Four hrs. to clear the driveway with the snow blower/ tractor. But 2 of it was spent fixing a flat rear tire!
Well our weather hasn't been a patch on yours CK thank goodness. We have had gales, hail and rain but after seeing your piccie I'm definately not going to complain.
