Our Cross Vine has recovered from the drought year before last, and is doing well this year. cross vine close-up.jpg
It is slowly covering an unattractive wire fence. The drought two years ago set it back, but it is recovering. I'm hoping for root off-shoots so I can transplant more of the vine along the fence.

Cross Vine is evergreen, and although it looks a lot like Trumpet Vine, it isn't as rampant nor as invasive. A lovely, restrained vine that is a hummingbird magnet!

That's gorgeous! If my brother would let me plant some along the fence I'd have some in a heartbeat!

I know what you mean Donna as I'd love to have one too. Jane your vine has the most beautiful blooms and I hope you get the root of shots your hoping for.

It's a beautiful vine and I really, really like the way it is draping along your fence. I had one when we lived in Texas and it did draw the hummingbirds in, like you said. Unfortunately, now it's not hardy in my zone since we moved.

Donna, Crossvine (Anisostichus caprelolata) grows well to zone 6, so I think you can have it. It needs full to part sun, and pests just don't bother with it. I'd love to send you a start, but so far no root shoots.:(

That's such a beautiful vine and it completely transforms your fence MG. The colour is terrific!

Jane, Thanks for the info. I will look for it next time I'm at the garden center.

I have a cross vine cultivar Dragon Lady that is more of a solid red, blooms like crazy and grows like crazy too. But alas the hummingbirds are never around when it blooms.
