I crept underneath a very tall and wide Filipendula rubra to try and find out where best to divide it, and when I pushed back the big, overhanging leaves, this suddenly stared me in the eye: It's a Meconopsis "Henson's Violet" that we bought at least four years ago and probably "temporarily" planted while making a more suitable area ready. Obviously we forgot about it. I think I need to crawl about more often. The Iris chrysographes is starting, but I moved it last year so it's very small. This is supposed to be "Black Knight": A couple of border areas that I'm fairly happy with: I got a surprise indoors too. The Zygopetalum orchid is blooming: It's cold and wet outside, so I guess the plants will put themselves on hold for a while.
All your photographs are great Droopy but I think I'd kill (well maybe only slugs) to have that gorgeous Black Night iris and that fabulous orchid. What are the directions to you house again?
Thanks Eileen. Drive north from Oslo, about 8 hours. More if you stop to eat anywhere. Take left before reaching town and head for the loveliest mountains in sight. I'm just there, by the fjord.
My bag is packed and I'm ready to go!!! What can I bribe you with when I get there so that I can take those two gorgeous plants home with me? Strawberries? Apricots? Chocolate?
How do you grow such wonderful varieties in your area? I have tried several orchids which you would think grow well in the South. Well, not for me! I wonder what I'm doing wrong. gardengater
Well, well, well... you've outdone yourself this time, Droopy! What a collection of special fotos. Those little rock borders are really charming and that meconopsis is a sublime thing, isn't it. I wonder how many more you have stashed around here and there. I guess you'd better add me to the list of "Iris to die for" people. I grow very few irises...but this is one that I will most definately begin searching for. It is so unusual and ...well... enchanting. A special thanks for this posting...it was a REALLY good'un. What a master gardener you are, miss D.
Fabulous photos as always Droopy. I also love the Black Knight Iris. Your borders look very nice too. I thought I had everything in control in my gardens until today when I took a little walk after work. The chaos has started!
Thank you all for wonderful words of praise. I don't think we've got any more "lost" plants about now, Sjoerd. I've been over everything and can pretty much see what's what at the moment. Everything's growing so fast now, and several of our plants are hollering for new homes with more space. They should have been equipped with wheels, some of them. Both of the above! And strawberries, lots of them. That orchid is growing inside. If I put it outside it would die very quickly. All house orchids get an outdoor holiday in July, when it's warm, and then go back inside in August. You do notice I only showed a couple of pieces of border? The rest of them aren't quite what they ought to... Plenty of greenery but not much else at the moment.
Your flowers are beautiful, but i love the borders. That is what i'm striving for, the little bloomers that pop up inbetween the more little creepers or just folige plants. I really need to go back to the florists,,lol.
You'll get there Biita, I'm confident. Those borders are good for herbs, and I got some growing there too. I want more, though. Guess I'll join you on that trip to the florist's.
What wonderful blooms and boarders you have there Droopy. I do love that "Black Night" and your little surpize. Heck, I love them all! Thanks for sharing.
