Blooms, bee & spider Aug. 20, 2008

We found a spider with a nice web by my daughter's playhouse. We sprayed it with a fine mist of water to make it more visible.







We also found nice calendula blooms


Some pretty butterfly bush blooms


And a bee in the vitex blooms

 

You all might hate me for this, but I go out and suck those big spiders up with the shop vac. They're everywhere and on everything!

I love the butterfly bush bloom shot (say that 10x fast)..such a pretty purple.

 

That looks like a fiddle on the spiders back.Is that a brown recluse ?Its great photos of the spider but if it is a brown recluse .I would spray it ok but not with water.
Your Butterfly Bush is just an amazing color and your bee photo is so good

Glendann, just so you don't get bit by one, i'll fill you in on brown recluses. There all over here, as long as you know what to look for you'll be ok.

First off, it's not a violin marking, they're violin shaped. Next, they won't have a big pretty web like these girls do, it'll be irregular shaped, and hidden. Like in a woodpile, a basket of clothes, maybe a coffey cup left in the corner. Usually the bite won't kill you, just make you wish it did.

They are very small compared to the ones pictured here, so when your cleaning up that pile of sticks, or moving things around in the attic (they love attics and cellars the most), look before you move something. Mostly, i don't worry about them, i've only been bitten once, i was laid up for a week. Oh, most bug spray only kills their food, not them. A rolled up magazine normally will do the trick.

Lovely spider web. I'm always amazed at those large webs with that little architect in the middle. Admirable job! Your blooms are looking very good. I'm thinking you've got the same butterfly bush that I have. Funny, that they can grow both there and here.

 

WTx, sorry i wrote that on your thread, i like your spiders, i never get good pictures of their webs though. those flowers are wonderful, you always grow such a good garden. Good bee too, she's working so hard.

 

Very nice effect on the flash shot of the spider and web (the 1st one).
The flowers are healthy and have rich colour.
...and that honey bee. Oh what a beautiful sight. I have seen so few this year. Alarming.
