    I found these by the river last year. They are quite pretty in person and photo. Here's some details;

    * Found in Zone 6b in Western North Carolina

    * Acts much like a Morning Glory, blooms in the mornings and when the sun hits it the flower dies and it blooms a different bud the next morning.

    * Found growing on a rocky riverbank

    That is all the information I have on them, no one I have asked locally knows about them. If the pictures are huge, sorry, they should be scaled down to 800x600

    The roots can be roasted, ground and used as a coffee substitute.

    I've been reading a bit about it, seems to be a neat plant. I have read it eliminates intestinal worms, can be used as a replacement for coffee like you said, and a replacement for horses oats, helps with gallstones, gastro-enteritis, sinus problems, bowel function, weight loss... Not sure how much of that is true, must research it a bit more. Wish I would have known this earlier so I could have gathered some seeds.

    Over here it's quite a weed, growing everywhere, road sides, fields, by railroads...

    Chicory is a weed here also ... but a very pretty one. I love seeing it blooming on the roadsides in the summer.
