There has been a flock of Blue Jays, more than 10 and less than 20 working through the woods, and feeding at the feeder. They are very timid, and hard to get relaxed. One even challenged a squirrel.

Gorgeous photos of a beautiful bird, one of my favorites. We didn't have any hanging around last year usually have a pair, sure hope they return.

We used to have a cat that came around and we would put dry catfood out for it in the winter. I figured he needed it more then than in the summer. He would eat a full bowl of food a day. I figured he was just a glutten. After a couple of months I found out that Blue Jays were eating out of it all day long. I even saw a mouse come up several times a day and get his fair share too!

I love your photography! Blue Jays certainly are pretty! They are a dime a dozen around here, and are kind of aggressive towards the other birds. But they are also very good at sounding the alarm when there is any danger around, like a hawk. I think of them as "the hell's angels of the bird world" :p

Blue jays are rather "Type A" individuals, aren't they? There is one around here that comes up on the porch and takes the nuts I put out for the squirrels. He has a tantrum if I interrupt him.

Great pics, Tom, esp challenging the squirel, who looks pretty nonplussed.

I love the one where the Blue Jay is glaring at the squirrel. It's probably thinking whether it should attack him or not.
