October 1, 2015 174 (2).jpg October 1, 2015 211 (2).jpg I am only going to be putting out peanuts without the shells now. My cairn terrier was eating too many of the shells off of the ground and got sick. It cost us a lot of money but at least he is starting to do better now. I will miss having them up close to the house but Scooter comes first October 1, 2015 121 (2).jpg

    Amazing photos! :sete_005:
So glad to know that your Scooter is recovering, I would have never known that such a problem might arise from peanut shells - thank goodness you caught it in time.

Oh, poor Scooter! Thank heavens you did catch it in time and he is no longer "nutty". We don't have Jays here, so I do appreciate your photos to remind me of what colorful, raucous birds they are!

Poor little Scooter. Thankfully the shells haven't done any lasting damage to his insides. Give him a big hug from us all.
The jays will still gulp down those nuts whether they have shells or not. Thanks for taking the time to post your photographs for us.

Sorry to hear your Scooter had a hard time Sherry. I guess the shells were just sitting inside his digestive tract? Still good news that you will not stop feeding the Blue Jays outright :) Beautiful photos.

Glad Scooter is on the mend.
The 4-6 Blue Jays that hang around my peanut feeders don't care if they are shelled or not, but after having dozens of peanut plants scattered around the yard two years ago I only feed them the roasted ones now.

Peanut plants...don't know if I have ever seen a picture of them.

Scooter is still having problems, he goes next week for a blood test to check his liver. I am hoping it is only a problem from the medication because he walks at times like he is drunk. But he isn't... The vet told me to take him off the medication and see if he improves. She doesn't think it is the meds. But I hope he proves her wrong!

I hope so too Sherry and will keep everything crossed for him. Please let us know how he gets on when he visits the vet next week.
