Blue Racers mating...these 2 Blue Racers (Coluber constrictor foxii) were on some old hay by my garden. They finished their "business" and slithered off through my garden and into the woods. BlueRacers_mating_05262018.jpg
The Blue Racer snake has not yet been assessed for the IUCN Red List in terms of conservation, but is listed as endangered in Canada by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. It is listed as a species of special concern in the state of Wisconsin. The blue racer has been on Ontario's Endangered Species List since 1971.

i did rescue a garter snake today though. I walked around the end of the high tunnel and the cat who was following me started crouching and pawing at something at the end of the tunnel. I went to see what he was doing and there was a snake caught in bird netting. I had to get scissors and cut it out of the netting. poor guy. and it was a nice sized snake too.
