Hello, I bought meself a beautiful pot of what I have been told is a Blue Salvia... There isn;t much reading material about the Blue Salvia on the web, but it seems it is supposed to be a simple plant to tend to... However, all the pretty blue flowers now seem to have fallen off and what's left are the spikes with some rough light blue flower bases... what am I supposed to do to keep them flowering and healthy... deadhead them? The plant will look rather empty then? Blue Salvia ( photo / image / picture from swmitra's Garden )
Do you happen to know which Salvia that is? Some only bloom once in the spring and some will bloom repeatedly or continuously in warm weather. Many will benefit by being cut back after the blooms have faded, that will encourage the plant to all more stems and bloom again. You might try snipping off the flower spikes as they die off and see if it does put out more spikes for blooms. Be sure you plant it in full sun, it doesn't bloom well in shade.
It looks like 'Victoria Blue' Salvia. It needs regular deadheading to keep it blooming. Don't worry swmitra, new blooms will appear quickly after you deadhead
I'm with Netty, it looks like Victory Blue to me too. I have some growing in a container just outside the front door I just snip off the old flower stalks and it starts producing more ... They re seed easily too.
