I have young blueberry plants, different varieties. Some are ripening enough that I can eat them. I have a couple of later varieties that will be ready later this month, maybe September. Went out to the garden and picked some raspberries and blueberries, added yogurt, and called it breakfast. Yummy! gorgeous berries. I waited and waited for my blues to ripen. figured I would have enough to a pie this year. I enclosed the bush with netting and anticipated the day! Then.... I saw a bird who had figured a way to get under the net. Every blueberry was gone! Only thing he left behind was blue birdie poop! such disappointment!
YUMMY! I love all berries. We also have 2 bushes that we get enough to have a snack from. But this year some bird was pecking holes in the ends. Not eating the whole Blue berry. Just wasting it. :-x But yours look very nice.
DMJ24 - sorry to hear about that pesky bird. We also have netting over the blueberry plants. No birds but a slug was eating one! We have a raised bed and my husband built kind of an arbor and the netting goes over it and almost drops to the ground. Maybe that's the secret. The birds would have to get underneath and then fly or scramble up the side of the garden ties to get in with the blueberries. Its kind of hard to see the net in the photo but it gives you the idea. I filled a tupperware container yesterday and brought them over to my father. I have some plants that are later blueberries and they're not turning blue yet. Kay - they're also good with ice cream. My husband wanted berries last night with his ice cream. At 10pm? He wants me to go out there in the dark and figure out which blueberries are ripe? And maybe its just me but I don't think fresh blueberries would go all that well with chocolate peanut butter ice cream!
Great harvest, Whister. I suppose that you are quite proud. They all look so delicious. Its the perfect breakfast. I eat garden fruit with yogurt as well....what a delight. Congrats.
