Breakfast, anyone? Each year I make stollen for Christmas breakfast. The recipe makes three large ones. I put two in the freezer and frosted the third one. I used to make about 12 or 15 of them and give them to friends and coworkers. Too slow or too lazy this year. I only made them yesterday. I'm tempted to have a late snack tonight. We haven't had supper though so maybe I will wait for breakfast. dooley
Oh I love Stollen Dooley and your picture is making my mouth water. If I was living near you you'd have me in your doorstep very early tomorrow morning!!
It's a sweet egg bread with lots of candied fruit and cherries and raisins. Sometimes nuts but this one has no nuts. It's very good with just butter but can be toasted, too though the glaze melts. dooley
How about you share the recipe??? That would be very generous of you After all you got all drooling over the those one you made :-D
It almost sounds like Irish soda bread, which I love, by the way... Hmm, maybe I'll make some tomorrow.
When we make stollen we put marzipan in the centre of it and eat it naked. (erm .... the stollen is the naked one - not me!!)
We eat stollen here traditionally. We had some this morning with tea as we opened prezzies. I do not know if yours are filled or not but ours are and we use powdered sugar on top instead of iceing. Delicious stuff, however one makes it.
My Mom makes Stollen each year too and uses powdered sugar on top. I don't eat them, but my sister loves them!
Mine is not filled but is full of golden raisins and candied fruit. I could take a picture of the plate tonight. We snacked on it off and on all day while waiting for dinner to cook. It was great. dooley
