Wow is the only word that can describe it! It's about 6cm long and so pretty! I found it on the ground near a 3-feet tall citrus tree and did not know what to do with it. Place it back there or take it inside and observe it. Can anyone please ID it and hand out some tips? Meow Lovely ( photo / image / picture from oubee's Garden )
Since you found it near a Citrus tree it could very well be the caterpillar of the Papilio manlius which is endemic to Mauritius. Have you seen this Butterfly in your yard? http://en.butterflycorner.net/Papilio-m ... 407.0.html Usually it's best to leave them where you find them. Taking it inside to observe it will prevent it from pupating and will probably kill it. Put it back where you found it and watch for the butterfly it will become.
Yes, I have, earlier this week only!! I was somewhat hoping it'd turn out into a bright green butterfly You are right! I carefully put it back on a sturdy branch and watched it crawl away as compared to its immobility whilst it was indoors! Thanks Toni
