I am happy that they are growing very nicely Can't wait till I can harvest them. Broad Beans ( photo / image / picture from CariAnn88's Garden )
My oh my Cariann, I was stunned to see these plants growing and then realized that you don't live over here. The weather here has been a little too brutal for anything to survive. They are looking good, though. Keep it up. I have never grown broad bean myself.
Very Nice, when did you sow them Cariann, Fresh Broad Beans are the best veg in my opinion just eat them young. Carolyn, having just moved back to the uk it is great that we can be in the garden this time of year and see the ground NO SNOW
Did some further checking and they are Fava beans. They are my favorite beans. I have grown them for many years. As all beans they are very easy to grow and transplant outside when it's time. They also dry wonderfully. I have them in my pantry up until a few weeks ago.
Dan it was beginning of November when I planted my broad beans. I am so glad it's not snowed here!! I don't mind it but when It turns to ice it's a pain. All though we do have at the moment bad wind and rain.
Barbs on the packet it said broad beans - the sutton. I do not know anything about broad beans at all
How exciting to see your Broadies. The Sutton may be a tad sensitive to the winter weather, but if you could fashion a cloche it might help. The Aquadulce Claudia is known for being particualrly hardy. I used to plant them in november all the time and have a very early harvest (before the black fly came). You may also want to get some Broad Bean "Express" to plant in late jan or feb. I have been using these the past couple of years along with the aquadulce. Meid, I hope you have good luck with your Broadies and the rest of the veg this coming season. Addendum: I did a little piece on Broad Beans a few years ago, if you want to read it: Klik here: http://www.gardenstew.com/about22985.html
Sjoerd I have a raised bed greenhouse so have got them growing in there. Thanks I will have a look for some and try them out
That's great Kari. Boy, oh boy--it sounds like a luxurious set-up there, miss. Please post a foto some time.
