I have huge broccoli, but no heads. I recently found that if you garden near pines, you have acid soil. I've done a home test for soil and it seems to be about in the middle. Would that have anything to do with the broccoli or could it be overfertilizing? Gardengater
I have very few calabrese heads forming yet...I hope that it's just a question of time for you. I always put some calcium in the hole when I plant my brassicas, as in my experience, they need thisngs more alcaline than acid or even neutral. I can't say for sure that this is the reason that you have no heads yet though. Could you part the very center of one of your plants and take a macro foto and post it? I would be interested to see what's going on.
I hope it's just a matter of time. Will take a photo though. All I see is more tiny leaves. Can I dig some calcium into the soil? Gardengater
Well, I have never done that... but it may be worth a try on some of your plants. Fingers crossed it's just time. They can sometimes take quite a while. I frequently give them water and food.
