This is a great buddleia. Unlike the more common one it reproduces by runners so new bushes come up all around it. It doesn't have to be cut back hard but can be trimmed like a shrub.

We've had a droughty summer but this bush laughs it off.

I need to find one of those!!! For 2 years I've tried Buddleia and for 2 years they have died!!! Now I'm looking for a drought hardy one to try or just giving them up!! They are beautiful bushes and the butterflies love them so I really don't want to give up on them!!

My buddleia haven't even come into flower yet although one does have buds on it. I've never seen one like your before Bethie. Do you know the name of it by any chance?

I'm still thinking of the name. I've had these about 5 years. This is actually one of the smaller ones in this photo. I have several that are huge. I started out with one and now I have nine. They can be a bit of a thug sometimes since they run underground. Here it's so wild and wooly I have everything from kudzu to bamboo. All thugs welcome! 8)

I wonder if this is the variety (whatever it is named) that they won't sell anymore up here... They banned some varieties because they spread too aggressively and became a nuisance plant, showing up along the waterways choking out all the native plants.
I have two 'regular' ones, still in their 5-gal buckets because I am indecisive on where to put them, so far they're dong fine. They sure are pretty!

It's my understanding that the "banned" ones are actually buddleia davidii which is probably the one you have in a pot. It's the one most commonly sold at nurseries. They are only invasive in certain areas. I have seven of those and they have never reproduced anywhere.

    Your Buddleia

Don't you just love buddleia? Mine just grows no matter what. I have several different colors and they all seem to love the New Orleans heat and humidity. And if you don't cut them back, they don't seem to care. My kind of plant.

The flowers look just like indigofera:

also called Chinese indigo. I saw these at a local plantation home a couple of years ago and fell in love with them, but the leaves on yours look different.

Is your buddleia called buddleia alternifolia, or fountain buddleia? I found a pic of it on a Parks add sent to my email but when I tried to copy and paste it sent me to another page, not the one with the buddleia pic.

No Cajunbelle, it's not alternifolia. That's the one I was trying to get when I got this one instead. I eventually got a cutting of alternifolia and rabbits "disappeared" it immediately. I need to wade into my craft room and find my old calenders that I write things on.
