A few of the tulips I have had buds that failed to thrive. It looked like a bud formed but when I checked closely this morning when taking the picture of the first bloomer I found there was no flower inside the bud thingy (I don't know if there is a special name of that or not) Does this mean the bulb is defective and will never produce flowers or should I wait until next year?
This has happened to me in the past Toni and I just put it down to weather conditions. Maybe not enough light, too much rain, too many frosts - can't really say but I know that the same bulbs have flowered for me since so you should be OK next year.
Thanks Eileen. I was really wondering because the tulips with the dead buds are in the same pot as the first bloom so they got the same weather conditions as the bloomer did, that's why I was concerned that the bulbs were defective. If nothing else they do produce pretty greenery.
