Nothing planned for this weekend, so I spent as much time sorting out the front garden as possible. We only have a small garden as we have a large drive forr the 2 cars, then a small border between us and our neighbour, about 5 foot wide, and then a wider border the other side between us and our other neighbour, about 12 foot wide. Everything in those borders has been grown from seed, cuttings or donations for my customers, and the borders are packed, so I needed to thin them out a little. I had a couple of clumps of grass, the huge ones with tall flowers, not pampas though, plus a broad leaf, shorter grass, which is a bugger and seeds everywhere. Well, I dug up 4 large grasses, masses of seedlings and one of the broader leafed grasses. By the time the border was forked over, it looked 100% better. James and I planted lots of bulbs that I had acquired over the winter, again, from customers who were throwing them out, and my mum who is a sucker for bargains, and as we worked, I spotted a clump of snowdrops in bud, and lots of crocus not far behind. The daffs are also a good 2 inches above the soil now. With that, and the birdies everywhere, it is a sure sign that spring is springing here in Essex.

Hope springs eternal. It's good to hear there are some signs somewhere.

Actually, I see a few little narcissus points checking out the air outside in my yard.

What a cheerful and enjoyable read, EJ. I hope that you have been well.
It really does lookmlike you are going to begin enjoying spring there. Here we are inundated with snow again today.
    Will it never end?

It was warmer all last week, highs in the 40F's here. Early this morning we got about 1/4 inch of rain and it is supposed to get near 55F today. Even with the rain we still had a little patch of snow this morning, but now it is gone. Now they are saying a chance of snow for Mon and Tues. No spring here yet!

It feels like spring here, too but I haven't seen any flowers. That freeze we had killed some things. I still have herbs in pots though. I will look around the yard and see what is out there but it is windy today so I have to stay inside. I'm glad you have some signs of spring EJ. It's always a good thing to see spring coming even when you live where there's not much snow and cold. I hope our winter is over, too.

Ej.. nice work you planned for the weekend, and I know you're happy it's behind you. I always wait till the last possible time, hoping that all the freezes and frosts are behind us. The weather here has been like a rollercoaster, up and down, and we're going back down in temps for a few days. I also see daffs coming up some with buds, and i hope they don't get nipped

Oh I do soooo envy you getting out to play in the garden EJ. I saw my first snowdrops here today and my daffodils are popping up out of the soil. I even have some cyclamen beginning to flower, but, we are supposed to have more snow over the next few days so I'd better appreciate them while I can.

We're getting rain and maybe even going to have a winter thunderstorm here in New Jersey. I've been in for most of the day. After I finish reading and writing a few posts I'm going to plant a few of the coleus seeds I harvested in the Fall. They need a good three months to grow to planting size.

I'm very happy for you, EJ, and very envious of you too! :D We've still got a solid amount of snow outside, and the only blooms I see are frost roses. *sigh* Do share some photographs, won't you?

Spent a good few hours in the back garden today. The lawn is in a terrible state thanks to the snow and the kids trampling all over it. It isn't a great lawn anyhow as this time of year the garden is waterlogged, and in the summer, it is baked so dry it is cracked. However, as I pulled back the leaves from the borders I revealed masses of daffs, crocus and snowdrop. Primulas have started to bloom and there are buds everywhere. Even with the cold, my semi hardy penstimens are still growing and all of the shrubs and trees have lovely new, plump buds. At the weekend, Mark is hoping to give the pond a bit of a spring clean so I will definately take lots of piccies to post.

There is a rumour that we may have some snow flurries on Friday, but if it does come this way, we are told it won't settle and will quickly pass....fingers crossed!

Oh, lucky EJ! I like hearing about things getting going in people's gardens!

We had a crazy wind storm all night and this morning. Of course it was trash night so thre were empty trash cans and recycle bins all over. Mine were a block down the street!

But it was 58 degrees (F) when I came out of work. OH! I just wanted to stay outside and play and see what's coming up but by the time I arrived home, it was dark and raining again...

I smell the dirt from your descriptions and itch to get out into the garden. Too wet here still with all the rain to do any digging. Won't be long and your writing makes me want ot get my hands dirty. :)
