Hey gang I took cuttings from a friends butterfly bush because I loved the color. I put four cuttings in water with root tone and about 6 in soil. I don't see any sign of growth on the ones in soil but the water ones have roots. How long should I leave them in the water before planting? I really want them to live. :-D

Give them plenty of time to form good, strong roots before planting them ER with plenty of small feeders. Usually about 4-6 inches long I'd say. Once you do plant them into soil make sure you water them well for the first two weeks or so as they will need to adjust to a different environment. Good luck. :-D

I really hate to disagree with you Eileen.Have always heard that "Water roots" can easily die when put in soil.
Have always transplanted at first site of roots. Always had good luck.

No problem Springlover as we all do things differently. :-D I find when I put a plant into soil with very few roots it usually dies. Maybe Englishrose could try both methods and see which works best for her.

I have to agree with Eileen,I've always let my cuttings develop good strong roots in the water too, and they always seem to do better.
You just have to do as Eileen said and make sure you water them well so they will adjust to the change better. Englishrose keep us updated on how your cuttings get along.
