Oh, I love Butterflies and Bees. I guess the heat has sent them to more northern climates this year since there I have only seen wasps and one lone Giant Swallowtail in my yard.

I have been watching my front entrance to see what is making a nest in my light. It looks like a wasp from the nest but I have never seen any in that area....it looks like a clump of mud.

I went and bought a fake nest, it looks a dark balloon to scare them off. I can't have visitors at my front door getting pestered by whatever is there. I just can't believe I haven't seen them yet.

You do have a great selection of butterflies there. We haven't had many this year at all.

You probably have Mud Daubers another species of Wasp, they make their nests out of mud. They aren't aggressive but will sting if you handle them.
Their diet consists mainly of spiders of all types depending on the species.

I think you are right toni...here is a picture, it is kind of hard to see the entrance hole. I still haven't seen anything going inside.

Wonderful photos of your flying visitors. I have less butterflies this year too. I still have not seen an American Painted Lady or Red Admiral but activity has picked up in the last few weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Great variety of flying friends you have there!
I'm only seeing a butterfly here and there lately.

Marvelous fotos, Sherry. You have some pretty fancy visitores this time. Little wonder with that superb garden of yours.
The bumble bee in that first pic looks like a teddy bear. It has very nice fuzz.
Butterflies, spider and mud dauber's nest are all very interesting abd beautiful to see.

I know of the existance of mud daubers and I have always wanted to open one of their sealed nests to see the variety of spiders inside.

Of course the insects in the fotos are very interesting to me, but I must compliment you on your flowers again this year. They look so nice.

Thank you...I am still seeing a lot of activity with the butterflys....

Sjoerd...we do have an abundance of spiders which usually make a mess on the house but this summer no mess so I think I know what is happening with them...
