A week or so ago, I got a "Thinking of you" card in the mail. I opened it and out fell some money. Surprise! I wasn't expecting it. The note said to buy something pretty.
So, I thought about it. I thought about cushions for the new lawn chairs. I thought about lots of things and looked at lots of things.
So, Saturday, we went to the store and right out in front were shrubs, three for ten dollars. We thought about them and thought that with the new table in the front yard we could plant some shrubs between it and the road and it would provide some privacy and cut down on the dust when it's dry and windy. We went back and bought 4 azelea bushes and a honeysuckle vine and a carolina jasmine vine. Yesterday, we went back and bought three more azelea bushes. They are a mix of colors, burgundy, purple and pink. We put five in the front yard and one in the backyard by the gate. The honeysuckle went on the fence in the front with another I planted last year. The Carolina Jasmine went in the backyard at the end of the tomato patch.
But, I had money left. When we were at the thrift shop yesterday morning we found an area rug. It was lighter than the one we had and we really liked it so we bought it. Guess who else likes it. Chance thinks it's great. Whenever she's not in here with me or outside with dr she is on that area rug.
So, it is any surprise that when I wanted to take a picture of it she was right in the middle.

I still have some money left and will keep thinking about things and looking at things when we go shopping. I'm sure I'll find some other pretty things. I will post pictures of the azelea's when they've grown a bit more. They are from a foot to about 18 inches high. I hope they grow fast.

Well you and DR have certainly managed to get lots of pretty things with your surprise gift!! :-D Chance obviously agrees that the rug is a wonderful new addition but I hope she doesn't want to sit on your new shrubs too. ;)
Everything you've bought will last you for many, many years I'm sure and will be a lovely memory of the person who sent the card to you.

Chance likes the rug because it is so thick and soft. It weighs a lot more than the old one did.
Eileen, tonight when we were in the front yard I looked around for Chance and she was laying right up next to, not on, one of the azelea bushes. When we planted our vegetables we put landscape timbers around them and she knows she can't go inside of them. But, we didn't put anything around these so she can lay down next to them. they don't provide too much shade right now though.

What an awesome gift from your friend... and it sure sounds like you got lots of "pretty for your buck"!
And I can't wait to see the photos.
I actually had a co-worker give me $20 today for taking up her slack when she was on vacation. I tried and tried to get her to take it back. But she refused. She said... "treat yourself".... so I did... straight to the nursery!
I think Chance would agree that gifts like this are just super special! :stew2:

We went to Huntsville today to do some shopping. When we finally got to Home Depot we went to the garden department. It was 88 degs according to the thermometer there and I was wilting so we didn't stay long and we didn't buy anything. I'll try again when it's not the end of a long day.

I mis-spoke. We bought a dozen landscape timbers so dr can build another vegetable bed and he will use some to build a wall so he can level the ground where the new lawn table and chairs are going to be sitting. Now, everything rolls off of it. We bought a roll of wire, too, so we can extend the fence with the roses upward. They are climbing higher than the fence that is there.
