That plant's got delicate foliage. Does it spread out a lot? Can you eat the berries or are they just for show?
The berries, which will turn purple in the fall, are all show for us gardeners; but for birds, it's a buffett. The growth form does make it appear delicate and graceful. But as it is a Callicarpa, this plant is tough and can tolerate scorching sun and deep shade. But no berries in the shade. Here's a view of a single specimen about 5 yrs. old. You need to prune them back hard each winter to get that arching, delicate effect of the branching. (This is the 3rd time I've posted pictures of this plant-hint,hint-try it in your garden). And some other good stuff... Buck & Tiger say bye.
Hey Bliss- I have Calicarpa, and I love it! Just transplanted it to a more suitable location a few weeks ago. new plantings ( photo / image / picture from Kay's Garden ) I can now enjoy it from my big living room window. I was first drawn to it because of the striking purple color of the berries.
