I recently received a dieffenbachia as a gift, and it was recommended to keep it in a humid situation. We have the air conditioning on now here in Texas, so I have a tray with pebbles in it, that I keep filled with water and let the dieffy pot sit on the pebbles. That provides humidity without letting the roots sit in wet soil.
I think you'll need to add moisture around your plant, either through a daily misting, or a bottom moisture tray.

Idk if that would provide enough. i was mainly asking if it could "tolerate" dry air. I know that it prefers humidity. I'll reword the question. does it adapt to the average air conditioned home?

I don't have the definitive answer... but I do know alot of plants don't/can't adapt to our needs. We have to adapt to there's.

I've been steadily killing a Zebra plant for over a year now. I just can't find a spot it likes.

Mine liked the bathroom the most. Normally I would put the dieffenbachia there but there's no room for it cause of my Parlor Palm(which I'm sure requires more humidity cause of the very thin leaves). I just hope that misting and a pebble tray is enough for the winter. i know that this will probably be easier than a Zebra plant though.
