Hi every one, I was wondering can wild black berries in the woods be transplanted, and be ok for next year, Thank you for your help. :-? And what would be the best way to do it? moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
YES, indeed! They surely can be moved, or transferred into your yard/garden.. The native/natural Blackberry plant reproduces itself by seeds and by near surface roots sending up sprouts.. Dig these sprouts with sizable root balls, reset them where you want them to grow and keep watered and lightly fertilized for the remainder of this year/season.. They fruit on previous seasons' canes so the canes it grows between now and winter will be where next year/season's fruit will grow.. NOTE ! ! The preceding info may or may not be true pertaining to some recent cultivars, but it will work fine for most Bramble berries that you find growing in the wild.. Hank
I've transplanted wild Blackberries from the bottom of my property (where the birds planted them for me ) to the garden. They took well and produced the first summer after I moved them. They will spread if they are happy, so beware!
After they fruit you need to cut them back pretty severely. Get them ready for next year and fewer leaves mean less heat stress if it gets dry. Although they do pretty well in the heat with moderate water.
