I was quite surprised when I went outside today in between rain drops and the tulips that I have seen the last couple of days were closed...and oh so different looking..I love them because of the leaves and they are an early blooming tulip for our area..

Those are so pretty and way different.I wish tulips did well in Texas but the heat keeps them from blooming well in the second year.

I may be asking a dumb question -- are you saying that they are the same plant, open and closed? If so, isn't that neat -- a fun surprise. Regardless, they are pretty and your shots are beautiful.

Those are beautiful blooms and the leaves are cute and curly. Don't think I have ever seen any other that the straight leaves. Great shots!

They are very pretty. :D I like the "shy" plants that close up in bad weather and open up in good. Our small tulips look a bit like yours but without the striped leaves.

Very pretty! And no i would of thought the they were a red tulip and a yellow. I didn't know tulips did that close up then open for different weather. Thanks for sharing that new piece of information.

One Jan. day when it was my Grandmothers birthday I purchased a vase full of tulips for her. As I sat and visited with her and as the time passed, her tulips all opened like an umbrella...I couldn't believe it..but as night time came she said they closed up again...I think it has a lot to do with light but I am not sure. Anyone else know why else they would do this..I mean they really looked like an umbrella, with the stem as the handle... :?:

It's fascinating to me that they are red on the outside and yellow on the inside.
