Yesterday I went along with a group from our Local Fish & Game Club, on a Spring Flower Hike. I photographed many different flowers, of which I have 7 here. Of the 7 I think I have identified 3, and there are 4 that I can't identify. I'd like to contribute several photos to the local newspaper, and it would be a good thing if I could include a name for the flowers. So I turned to the one place I'm sure to get good answers, "The Stew" Can you help me out? Tom ( photo / image / picture from Calomaar's Garden ) The first 4 are Trilliums, There is an unusual Trillium here, the one with four pedals. It created some pleasant patterns. The bird found a well protected spot ( photo / image / picture from Calomaar's Garden )
For the unknowns: 1. Some type of Flax - Linum usitatissimum, perhaps? 2. No idea - was thinking some type of Hypericum, but the flowers are a little small. 3. Some species of Anemone. 4. Dicentra exima - white fernleaf bleeding heart.
First one after the Marigolds is a Carolina Spring Beauty (Claytonia caroliniana), second is a buttercup possibly Ranunculus arbortivius, but I need the whole plant for that one, I agree with IBinsanity for the third one, and the fourth is Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria).
Thanks for sharing. Lovely flowers. I love the wild ones. Makes wish I had time to get out for a walk in the woods.
