    Hi there,

Since this is my first post and there isn't a forum dedicated to composting, I figured it would be best to introduce myself with a question and say "hello" at the same time.

I've started composting in a metal 55 gallon barrel w/ removable top and locking ring. I have several metal plastic and even a couple wine barrels to work with, and I was just curious what would happen if you dumped a hundred or so pounds of mixed 'greens & browns' in a sealed drum and let it cook, sealed and slightly pressurized.

    Thanks!

At the present time Composting topics are in the Organic Gardening subforum of the Gardening Other forum. Or in other words HERE

It's a lot like cooking gumbo...

if it doesn't turn out the way you like it... you can always add something else to it!

As it turns out, the barrel I started out with originally, created enough fermented/putrefied contents to stretch out to two other barrels with a thick layer of leaves and newspaper clippings between each thin layer of the contents from the first barrel.

So there may be some benefits to pressure cooking to start out with, but only if you have the option of distributing those contents to several different containers.
    I hope that helps!
