Have a look at some of the tree casualties in the UK due to the storms: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/6278481.stm Be careful all UK visitors!
Wow, what a sight. All those wonderful large trees, Hopefully just that one man was involved. We had some trees that size falling last summer from the drought. I think there was one fatality.
Oh my gosh Frank The wind has to be so bad its unbelievable how big some of those trees are.I feel for everyone in the paths.
I definitely wouldn't like to be living in a house next to old or damaged trees. The power of wind is colossal.
That looks like some of the damage out in Oklahoma and Missouri last week, except the damage was caused by freezing rain. One place it Missouri had ice 3 inches thick on the trees power lines etc.
I was saying to mum tonight, there is nothing you can do to stop the weather. Whether it is wind or rain, and the carnage they bring with them, you just have to stand back and let them get on with it....getting well out of the way mind you. Today at work I saw a work gang dismantling some rather crooked scaffolding, and a tree gang trying to carefully cut down a tree which was leaning dangerously close to a house. What is mother nature playing at?
So sad to see them down - the wind there has been really terrible! I hope it is past for all of you now.
:'( That sort of damage to majestic old trees is always heartwrenching, even to those of us in hurricane prone areas who are somewhat conditioned to expect it. The loss of so many centuries old trees, taken along with the property damage, and awful loss of life will leave many visible and emotional scars. :'( :'( I echo Prim, I hope this was the end of the destructive wind storms.
