There is a butterfly garden in one of our local hospital. 2nd visit so far. Saw this Drab Brown Wave Moth (correct me if I am wrong) basking in the sun. It blended in so well I almost thought it was part of the bark. ( photo / image / picture from songlim18's Garden )
Camouflage is indeed a wonder of nature that allows creatures to survive a predator eat prey world. Your observational skills are excellent. Did the moth move before you spotted it? Jerry
If you hadn't told us what it was, I'd have thought that it's a picture of a fossilized butterfly. Anyway, it just goes to show how amazing nature really is. Of course, new digital cameras too are amazing as well - Because had it not been for them, than I seriously doubt we would have bothered photographing and sharing such scenes with everyone. So all in all, I give Songlim18 a full 10 out of 10!
The moth did not move. If I walked past it too quickly, I would have missed it. It was about 1 feett above the ground and it was an awkard postition for me to focus and capture it on my sensor. It remained very still for hours. Could it be sleeping?
It sure does blend in well, doesn't it? I saw a butterfly yesterday that blended in very well, except it had an orange spot on each wing that made it stand out. dooley
Very nice SongLim. I remember our biology book in highschool talking about how insects blended in to avoid meeting a sticky end. Amazed me then, and it's still a wonder.
The picture by the way is so well taken, that I feel it must be entered into some photo competition! It would be a sin not to...
