I know some of you are mad at the poor little groundhog, but please don't eat him. I saw a nice big flock of geese heading north this afternoon. Spring is not far behind them. Geese seem to know more about the weather than groundhogs, after all they fly up there in it. The groundhog is busy napping and some idiots woke him up and asked him where is spring? If you woke me from my nap, I would probably bite you and tell you something not so nice. And now they want to cook the poor guy. Shame on those so called weather men.
I'll keep a look out for geese passing over here. When I see their V in the sky and hear them honking I know spring will follow. Sadly there's no sign of them yet though.
AA, I saw a small flock flying North this week, too. I just didn't think anything of it since we seem to have such a huge winter population of them. I tried to take a picture one day as I was driving home...the field was filled with them but it didn't turn out very well, I will try to find it, though. Now about that groundhog thing.....how silly, anyway!
I'm north, and I have seen a lot of geese! They aren't too pleased, though, as their rivers and ponds are still frozen. I don't take the whole ground hog thing too seriously, instead I rely on other signs of spring around my property. Robins, Red Winged Blackbirds, Kildeer, Deer returning and raccoons coming out of hibernation. Buds on my Lilac and spring flowering bulbs poking out. I have seen the beginning now of all of these things.
Well, the weather channel had some weather guy pressing criminal charges on the poor groundhog and wanting the death penalty for him. I HOPE that was not true, but people are so crazy nowadays, you just never know. I sure hope they did not go and kill him over some silly superstition.
I have honey bees out now. They are feeding on various weed flowers, and perhaps my daffodils and grape hyacinths. Nothing else is quite in bloom yet. Many things have buds, and will bloom soon. About two weeks ago, when the sap began running in my maple trees, they were feeding on a spot where the sap was dripping from my silver maple tree. They go back indoors if it gets too cold and snowy though.
I saw a huge flock (or a couple flocks together?) of em last week! They were high up in the air and I would never have seen them if they hadnt been honking away C'mon Spring!!
I guess you're right nightowl, Groundhog probably wouldn't be very tasty anyway... I am frustrated with our very late spring, but it'll get here! I usually realize spring and warmer weather has arrived for real when all the Juncos are gone. They are our winter buddies, but can not take our hot days of summer.
