This afternoon, I took my daughter & two nieces (visiting from Dallas) to a local lake to see & feed geese. This part of West Texas hosts millions of Canada geese in Winter. (There are more geese than people in West Texas in Winter [I understand also, there are always more head of cattle than people].) They roost on the playa lakes and they feed in the fields of harvested grain & sorghum during the day. I got a few good shots of geese this afternoon & wanted to share them:

Those geese are handsome birds. We have them in spring and autumn, but they are just passing through.
You certainly got some great shots while you were out and about WT. Canada geese have such striking markings don't they? My daughter (when she was about 3-4 years old) used to ask why they all had sore throats :-? I, finally, realised she thought they all had scarves around their necks!!!
Very nice fotos. It makes me think of that film called, "Winged Migration". What a remarkable film that was. We also get them here--they stopover at certain places along the IJsselmeer (Zuider Zee) dikes. Our village was built on the IJsselmeer and there is a migratory bird sanctuary along the dike heading south of town. It's easily reachable with the bike. Thanks again for your lovely fotos.

No, I do not speak or write german. I can barely make out the meaning of your note. ha ha ha. I will ask my partner tonight, as she worked in germany many years ago. But when you said that you hear them when they fly over...do they land somewhere near your home? Did you take the pics at a park or at your home? Its a nice variety of birds, isn't it? I live in a small town Sjoerd, I live in a small town and we're surrounded by farm land. Some of the farmers grew grain & sorghum crops in the Summer and harvesting them left grain on the ground - a lot of it. The geese come here for the wearmer weather, the abundant grain & the playa lakes. The South Plains region of West Texas is dotted with shallow lakes and each of them attracts geese in great numbers. We see & hear the geese overhead, as they go to & from the lakes & fields. These pictures were taken at a park inside a city with a population just over 200,000 - Lubbock, Texas. My town lies to the East of the city & only has 2,000 inhabitants. I knew the geese would be at this lake in this park, because I see them every day when I go to work & come back home. I could've driven around in the country looking for geese, but I knew I'd find them at this lake.
Beautiful photos especially the close-ups. When you step back and take the whole picture in they are very goofy-looking, poor things
