Suggestion to anyone with a bed of Canna's....dig them up and divide them much more often than every two years. I never got around to it last spring and last fall I did a half-a**ed job of it so this fall it had to be done. The cluster in the middle are the ones holding the three Orb Weaver egg sacks and the two in bloom on the left side I didn't want to disturb. Now the bed contains roughly 36 bulbs and by next summer there will probably be double that since most of them had little ones coming out on the sides.

This is part of the approximately 120 I have left over. I am saving about 2 dozen for another bed on the far side of the yard from this bed, when they are grown and blooming it will provide a little screening from the street. Some will go to a couple of friends and I will have several dozen to offer on my rEcycle list.

Also have finished the Iris bed re-do, also planted some black ones and three repeat blooming ones called Ocean Pacific. Also, to the left are three Sedum Autumn Joy, in front are three white SkullCap and to the right are two Dianthus. And on the top right of the picket fence behind the bed is a squirrel.

You put me to shame Toni with all the hard work you've been doing in your garden. The weather here is so cold that it's hard to get a spade into the ground at the moment.

I can't grow cannas outdoors, so I'm ever so pleased that you are sharing yours, Toni. The Ocean Pacific irises are truly beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing your redone borders when in bloom.

You sure have been busy Toni!
I have to dig my Canna's up each fall and they have usually doubled in size over the summer. It doesn't take long before you have more Canna's than you can handle!
They sure are pretty and the Hummers love them.

Thanks everyone, I am really sore today but I am also really pleased with the look of the beds.
Netty, I wish we had hummers haven't seen any in this yard in the 20 1/2 years we have lived here.

The picket fence is actually two pieces, Randy used really large hinges to put them together on an angle where the shorter one would be towards the back. They are basically holding themselves up.
This side area is another place that has been a depository for things I have no where else to put and will become the home of my compost bin this weekend.
The planters hanging on there are old stew pots, they usually have Impatients in them since it is a nice shaded area.
