Toni always finds the best stuff at second hand stores, but I never have much luck! I was feeling inspired so I went into the local second hand store the other day. I didn't find any good 'junque', but I did find 2 big boxes of canning jars outside the door. I picked these up for $5 a box! I took them home and washed them, and in the end there was 73 jars. That works out to 14 cents a jar! I was most impressed with my find, and now I am ready for this years garden produce! Bring on garden season
Oh, lucky, lucky you! However, with your green thumb I doubt that 73 jars will suffice. You might tell the thrift store workers to give you a call if more jars show up!
I don't can any more but I use my canning jars with my food saver to keep cereal and other foods fresher longer. Great find and the price was very good...
I have a few more cases in the basement and so my family was looking at me like I had lost my mind! I am now just looking for wide mouth jars and pints, not sure if I will find those at a second hand store. I did find 3 cases of pint jars a few weeks ago, but they were $5 a case each - still a good price. Toni - some were Ball, Bernardin, Canadian Mason, Consumers and Kerr. Not one jar had a chip or crack so I was thrilled!
Team gardening - Everything! I'm hoping to can my garden produce ... carrots, beans, peas, pumpkin, beets, corn, tomatoes etc as well as making and canning apple sauce, salsa, pickles, jam and jelly. I may also try doing chicken if I can find a good deal.
Netty...everything sounds so good that you will be planting...I am envious of you having so much energy to do all of that work. Up to a few years ago we used to freeze our applesauce. You just can't buy things that taste as good as home grown.
Don't ya just love a score like that? It's almost like a gift from the Lord who whispers in your ear LOOK, over there.
