Toni gave me some Cardoon seeds probably 3 years ago. The plant is now huge... at least 5 foot... and everyone says it looks prehistoric. I agree. Isn't that beautiful??????? So nice to hear that one Stewbie has given to another.... I really really love that.
Thanks Barb. Hopefully more them will open soon. I saw one of these at a nursery and it's practically twice as big as this one. Definitely an eye-catcher!
So cool, never seen flowers like that. Does look kinda prehistoric! Awe I like the whole sharing thing. Maybe when I get better at this I can do a seed swap thing.
Thanks Bunkie! Laura... if you ever see something that you really like... just ask away. Even if you don't have some seeds to trade... you could always trade for the cost of postage. What are stamps these days 45 cents? I've gotten some things here that I would never have seen in the nursery. And it just makes it more special to know it came from a fellow Stewbie.
Mine is close to 8 feet tall this year and three flower spikes have a total of 23 buds. I am wondering how much I will have to take out of the bed next year when it starts growing again. Cardoon ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden )
Same Family...Asteraceae and same Genus as the artichoke. Many parts of the Cardoon are edible, but I haven't been that hungry yet. I just love the look of the monster in my garden.
